Blackberry Smartphones

Blackberry is a product line of Smartphone devices developed and designed by the leading Canadian telecom company Research in Motion, widely known as RIM. The first Blackberry device, the 850 was launched in 1999 and worked as a two-way pager. The real Blackberry Smartphone and commonly accepted was released in 2000 that supports push email, mobile telephone, text messaging, internet faxing, web browsing and other wireless information services.

Functions of a Common Blackberry Smartphone

A Blackberry Smartphone works as a personal digital assistant (PDA) that is equipped with address book, memo pad, calendar and task list capabilities.

It even functions as a portable media player that supports music & video playback as well as camera & video capabilities.

It sends and receives push emails.

Powerful messaging features such as auto text, auto correction, auto prediction, support for many languages, keyboard shortcuts, text emoticons, push Facebook, twitter & Myspace notifications, push instant messaging, and threaded text messaging.

Blackberry constitutes 14.8% share of worldwide Smartphone sales. Its internet services pervade across 91 countries on over 500 mobile service operators using diverse mobile technologies.

These Smartphones have evolved over a period of time, earlier the devices had a monochrome display but all recent models have colour displays. Until the release of latest Storm models, all the devices had built-in QWERTY keyboard to support thumbing i.e. the usage of your thumbs to type. Storm 1 and Storm 2 are full touchscreen devices without physical keyboard that use SureType keypad for typing.
